Vision and Mission Statement
The Mississippi Baptist Seminary’s vision is to educate and develop Christians for worldwide leadership and service. We are committed to providing men and women with outstanding interdisciplinary undergraduate/graduate professional education for the practice in Biblical theology. We train both clergy and laity for the practice of Christian ministry and various professional social vocations. We believe in fostering an academic environment in which students and faculty dialogue about critical issues facing the church, society and the world. Our holistic educational philosophy enhances the spiritual, intellectual, and social growth of our students.
Our mission is to provide a theological education in the Baptist Tradition to persons called to serve the church in pastoral ministry and lay leadership. The Mississippi Baptist Seminary and Bible College offers itself as a “Seminary on Wheels” through its extensions’ work in order that persons receive theological training within or near their area or location. To realize its mission The Mississippi Baptist Seminary will encourage excellence in Biblical learning, teaching, research, administration and development.
The Seminary institutional goals are:
• To provide a comprehensive interdisciplinary Christian and theological education based on the Baptist tradition from a biblical perspective
• To encourage excellence in learning, teaching, research, administration and development
• To graduate highly qualified students who are equipped to perform in pastoral ministry and in lay leadership
• To encourage the pursuit of Life-long learning
The objectives of Mississippi Baptist Seminary and Bible College relates specifically to the purpose and goal of educating and developing Christians for worldwide leadership and service. The objectives in meeting this goal are that the graduate will be:
• Academically and intellectually competent in his chosen field of study
• Knowledgeable and capable of rightly dividing the Word and the Truth of God through biblical and theological studies
• Able to clearly articulate the distinctive of the Baptist faith in the context of the church, community and convention affiliation
• Scripturally enhanced and spiritually equipped to serve God with his life locally, regionally and globally
• Able to live out the salvation message before a lost world in both life and practice through a life of example and testimony in character
The Mississippi Baptist Seminary’s guiding principles are to achieve the highest levels of institutional effectiveness through evaluation and implementation of programs that safeguard the integrity of our mission. The core values are adherence to biblical principles and Christian standards of social justice and the full humanity of all persons; respect for our students and our faculty; and fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency.
Biblical Foundations of the MBSBC
Mississippi Baptist Seminary and Bible College Faculty Statement of Faith and Affirmation
1. I affirm my belief in Jesus Christ as I affirm my commitment to the vision and mission of the Mississippi Baptist Seminary and Bible College (MBSBC) and the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi, Inc. (GMBSC).
2. affirm my belief in the Holy Bible as the inerrant Word of God written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and is the final authority for faith and Christian conduct.
3. I affirm my commitment to the practice of building a sound Christian character and of developing a strong personal faith in the Lordship of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Holy Bible.
4. I affirm my membership and commitment to a local Baptist Church or a historical Christian Church.
5. I affirm my commitment to use Christian innovative approaches in the classroom that address the contemporary challenges in Christian Ministry.
6. I affirm my commitment and ability to contribute to the developmental success and relevance of the academic curriculum/programs of the MBSBC as an instructor.
7. I affirm my commitment to the characteristics of a servant-leader as demonstrated by Jesus Christ in the Holy Bible.
8. I affirm my commitment and ability to be sensitive to all students, other faculty and staff regardless of their race, gender, nationality, age, denominational beliefs and physical condition.
9. I affirm my commitment to advocate strong Christian principles and practices; and assist each student in his or her spiritual, ministerial and personal formations.
10. I affirm my commitment to the Baptist Articles of Faith and The Church Covenant. (See attachment one and two)
11. I affirm my commitment to the governance/polity of the General Mississippi Baptist State Convention.
